Many people really don't understand the responsibility that comes along with owning a credit card. Everyone thinks that it is just a nifty piece of plastic that allows them to spend money on whatever they want and then worry about the charges and consequences later. With the growing epidemic of credit card abuse going on, we sent reporter Steve Stickly to cover the story.
Credit Card Abuse More Prevalent Than Ever
Hello, Im Steve Stickly. In today's society of instant gratification and living in the moment, citizens have lost touch with reality. Credit card companies lure you in with tempting offers only to turn their backs on you and demand more money. Here is a little breakdown of the average consumers timeline once they decide they think a credit card is right for them.
- Get approved for a credit card
- Go to fancy store and max out their credit card
- Don't worry about what will happen when they don't pay their bill on time
- Get the bill and realize that they were late on their payments and now their rate has gone up
- Find themselves in credit card debt with nowhere to turn
- Get rid of their credit card and apply for debt consolidation
This is not the case for everyone, but it is for many people of this country. The problem is that consumers do not read the fine print of their credit card contracts. They are confused about high interest rates, late fees and low limits. People are so excited to go and use their shiny new credit card when they first get it that they don't take a chance to step back and analyze the situation.
There are several ways to prevent credit card debts but we're only going to focus on the solutions for people already knee deep in debt. Unfortunately, this still includes a large majority of the country's population. The best way to experience debt reduction is over time, with limited spending and the help of professionals.
Through a debt elimination program, you will come to see your faults as a credit card abuser and learn to change you ways.
Hopefully through the help of this report and the Herald's staff we can steer you away from credit card abuse. Im Steve Stickly, Goodnight.
